OTTAWA—The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has issued a post-election statement calling on the re-elected Liberal government to spur Canada’s building industry towards a low-carbon future.
The statement offers congratulations to the Trudeau government and notes that Canada’s building stock contributes up to 17 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. Investing in a low-carbon workforce transition would be a key driver to help Canada’s construction workforce develop, construct and manage high-performing green buildings, said the CaGBC.
Other recommendations include:
- stimulating Canada’s retrofit economy through the Canada Infrastructure Bank;
- leading on zero-carbon guildings; and
- developing national building benchmarking and disclosure requirements.
