Construction of Ontario’s Greenstone Gold Mine hits milestone

GERALDTON, ONT. — The Greenstone Gold Mine south of Garaldton, Ont. Is 50 per cent constructed and on schedule for its first gold pour in 2024, according to a recent update.

The mine is a joint venture between Equinox Gold and Orion Mine Finance.

Concrete formwork for steel erection is complete at the east end of the processing plant and is advanced at the crusher. Steel erection and cladding is on-going at the plant.

The truck shop will soon be available for the operations team and the power plant installed all six generators after transportation from Finland.

Priorities include closing most buildings for interior mechanical, piping and electrical work. Natural gas piping has been installed.

A major milestone for the project was the commissioning of the Permanent Effluent Water Treatment Plant, which started discharging clean water to Kenogamisis Lake from the plant site in October, said general manager Eric Lamontagne during the update.

The plant treats contact waters from the mine site as well as collected seepage from historical tailings.

Lamontagne said the first few months of 2023 will focus on progressing the inside of the buildings with pouring of interior concrete slabs and the installation of equipment along with electrical and piping work.

The project has reached two million hours lost-time injury free.
