Building Information Modeling seminar series kicks off May 17 in Toronto

The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) will host the first in a series of regional seminars on building information modeling May 17 at the downtown Metropolitan Hotel on Chestnut Street in Toronto.

The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) will host the first in a series of regional seminars May 17 in Toronto. The theme is communication and collaboration in Building Information Modeling.

Timed to coincide with the annual conference of the Ontario Association of Architects, the half-day session is targeted at personnel engaged in the building process at a design, procurement, assembly and operations level.

“This would include owners and important sectors of our industry such as the supply chain, fabricators and facility management,” the council’s board said.

The event, to be held at the downtown Metropolitan Hotel on Chestnut Street, is the first planned by the council, which includes a mix of architecture, engineering and construction companies as well as associations and some government agencies.

In the works for 2011-12 are sessions in Edmonton, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

“Our membership, when polled, was not interested in large, yearly conferences,” the board said.

“This is the reason the board chose to name the events regional sessions which are much more personal, engaging and cost effective.”

The program will include an update from council chair Paul Loreto, presentations from BIM practitioners, an open board meeting with member participation and a roundtable discussion.
