Oshawa named a Top 10 Intelligent Community

OSHAWA, ONT. — The City of Oshawa has been included in the Intelligent Community Forum’s (ICF) international ranking of the top intelligent communities with populations between 100,000 and 250,000.

The list is the first of its kind and the latest in ICF’s By the Numbers series.

ICF is a global movement of more than 140 cities, towns and regions.

As an international think-tank and foundation, ICF studies and promotes the best practices of the world’s Intelligent Communities as they adapt to the new demands and seize the opportunities presented by information and communications technology, stated a release issued by the City of Oshawa.

The Top 10 included five communities from Ontario, three from the United States, and one each from Australia and Germany.

ICF developed the list using its global data set with a focus on information provided over the past five years, specifically results from the Smart21, Top7 and Intelligent Community of the Year evaluations.

Oshawa was named a Smart21 Communities of 2016, indicates the release.

“This is an astounding accomplishment for not only the city, but also the community as a whole,” said Oshawa Mayor John Henry in a statement.

“It is the combination of partnerships, the commitment of old and new business alike, and the potential we hold that will see this city continue to succeed on the international stage.”
