Former ULI chair donates $1M to Net Zero program

The Urban Land Institute Foundation has announced that it has received a donation of $1 million from Owen Thomas, CEO of Boston Properties and former ULI global chair. The funds will be used to launch ULI’s Net Zero Imperative, a new program intended to help local governments and private sector leaders reduce their carbon emissions to zero.

 

Leaders campaign as election day approaches

The three main federal party leaders have announced their schedules for today, four days before the election. According to the Canadian Press, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is in Saint John, N.B. for an announcement at a curling club and then Truro, N.S. for an event at a farmers’ market. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh visits Toronto to make an announcement about affordable housing, Oshawa, Ont. to meet supporters and Kingston to again meet supporters. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau makes an announcement in Montreal.

 

Lumber prices continue to drop

Yesterday Statistics Canada reported that prices for softwood lumber fell for the third consecutive month, with a drop of 22.3 per cent month over month. The last increase was in May, setting a record with a hike of 25 per cent. For the first time since September 2019, softwood lumber was down year over year in August with a drop of 14.2 per cent.

 

Kruger Energy buys electric semis

Montreal-based Kruger Energy L.P. today announced the acquisition of two all-electric semi-trailer trucks to carry goods between Kruger renewable energy facilities in Quebec. Kruger specializes in the development, construction and management of renewable energy power plants in Canada and the U.S. The firm said in a statement it will continue to explore opportunities to expand its fleet of sustainable, alternatively fuelled vehicles.
