RENCO USA β€” A building system by RENCO USA which utilizes interlocking molded bricks took first place in the building innovations category at the 2024 JEC Composites Innovation Awards in Paris, France.

MIAMI, FLA. – A Miami-based company has won a global innovation award for a new building system that mimics childhood brick toys to create real-life structures.

The system by RENCO USA, which utilizes interlocking molded bricks, took first place in the building innovations category at the 2024 JEC Composites Innovation Awards in Paris, France.

β€œFor a century, the construction industry has relied on concrete, wood and steel. RENCO marks a paradigm shift by introducing an entirely new material. We’ve created user-friendly, connectable bricks and color-coded plans, so communities can construct more affordable buildings, more quickly,” said RENCO co-founder Thomas Murphy, Jr. in a statement.

β€œThis award recognizes how the RENCO system is ushering in a new era of construction, with the power to lower housing costs, address the skilled labor shortage, and reduce the industry’s impact on the environment.”

The system uses blocks made from a renewable composite material which β€œsurpass concrete in strength, reduce costs significantly, and allow for rapid construction,” a RENCO release said. The renewable material is made with recycled glass fibers, resin and stone and is certified to withstand Category 5 hurricanes, the release added.

RENCO recently successfully completed its first apartment complex in in Palm Springs, Fla. in June 2023 after more than 12 years of research and development, the release said, adding 11 workers assembled each three-storey building in about eight weeks by following color-coded plans.

RENCO previously won the Best Construction Product Design of 2023 award at the BLT Built Design AwardsΒ in Lucerne, Switzerland in November 2023.
