In this episode of TCR Express, Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson is back from vacation and he’s got a lot of breaking news to talk about with digital media editor Warren Frey including the announcement of Donna Grant as president of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA). Grant was part of the team organizing the Lunchbox Challenge which helped struggling restaurants weather the COVID-19 pandemic by feeding construction workers on site.
Russell is also looking at a development in North Vancouver by Darwin Development which will feature not only mixed-use commercial and residential but also seniors and purpose-built rental housing. The Vancouver Island Construction Association has also completed the engagement process of their Tailgate Toolbox initiative looking at substance abuse and mental health.
Daily Commercial News staff writer Angela Gismondi is also examining the opioid crisis in Ontario with a campaign by the Ontario Construction Consortium (OCC) called The Other Pandemic. Angela wil be talking to the OCC along with other industry stakeholders such as the Carpenter’s Union, who are supporting the campaign.
