The Construction Record Podcast – Episode 124: Vienna House with John Wall

This week on the Construction Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with John Wall, an architect with Public: Architecture + Communication about Vienna House, a collaborative project that leverages cultural exchange between the City of Vancouver and City of Vienna to build sustainable construction projects.

Vienna House is in the planning stages but will emphasize both aesthetics and affordability in a social housing project with a light environmental footprint. Wall said Passive House standards help not only with energy efficiency but resiliency while dialing down the complexity of the structure.

Wall said the European approach to building is pragmatic and increasingly modular and Vancouver can adapt these ideas to local projects. He added Europe is further ahead in terms of social housing and engineered wood use while studying Vancouver’s regulatory and logistical approach may be of some value.

You can listen to The Construction Record and TCR Express on the Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce websites as well as on Apple PodcastsSpotify and Amazon Music’s podcast section and you can hear last week’s naturally: wood collaboration featuring University of British Columbia professor Gary Bull here. Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next week.
