Lafarge has received Wildlife at Work certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council for its Bow River Aggregates site and recertification for its Lafarge Meadows site, both located near Calgary, Alberta.
The Bow River site maintains a wildlife habitat one-third of an acre in size. The wildlife management team also built a nesting platform for osprey on the site. Native flower-producing bushes have also been planted and have also planted over 30 spruce trees.
Lafarge Meadows is a 150-acre area in Fish Creek Provincial Park which consists of wetlands, grasslands and riparian areas. All 150 acres of the park are actively managed for wildlife.
The wildlife management team for the site also keeps invasive species out of the area and eliminates litter. Amphibious population has also been monitored since 2008. Over 6,500 trees have also been planted.
