Manitoba on receiving end of federal funds for asset management

OTTAWA — Seven new projects in Manitoba will get a funding boost from the federal government to the tune of $310,320 to support stronger asset management practices.

The investments will go to mostly rural communities through the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP), which is delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) on behalf of the federal government.

“These investments in seven municipalities in Manitoba will help them better plan, build and maintain their public infrastructure for now and for generations to come,” said Minister for Northern Affairs Dan Vandal in a statement.

The Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain has identified gaps in infrastructure data regarding bridge assets and road networks and will fill those gaps by compiling and collecting asset information into a single system while also receiving training and tools to collect and update asset-condition data. The municipality received $36,640.

The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead received $38,560 and will document and consolidate information on municipal assets including culverts, roads, water and sewer lines, buildings and bridges. They will also analyze the assets in detail to update their properties.

The Municipality of Rhineland received $50,000 for asset management and infrastructure data collection, and the Rural Municipality of Stanley also received $50,000 for asset management assessment and program development.

The Rural Municipality of Victoria was given $48,000 for asset management program development and the Rural Municipality of Woodlands received $42,800 for asset management program implementation. The City of Thompson received a $44,320 investment in an asset management plan.
