B.C. funds low-carbon innovation for buildings

The B.C. government is providing an additional $8 million for building-sector businesses to accelerate availability and affordability of low-carbon building solutions. Funding is available through the CleanBC Building Innovation Fund and will promote building-sector innovation for material, component and system manufacturing, digital technology solutions, demonstration projects and an open call for other innovative solutions. Application intake closes Jan. 10, 2021.

Lumber prices decline in November

Statistics Canada also reported today that the industrial product price index decreased 0.6 per cent on a month-over-month basis in November. The decline in the IPPI was led mainly by a reduction in the price for lumber and other wood products (minus 11.1 per cent), particularly softwood lumber (down 21.1 per cent), which posted its second consecutive monthly decline after a record increase in August (up 23.3 per cent) and near-record increases in July (up 22.5 per cent) and September (up 20.6 per cent).

Impact agency seeks comments on LNG Canada Export Terminal Project

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada issued a statement yesterday indicating it is proposing changes to conditions for the LNG Canada Export Terminal Project targeted for Kitimat, B.C. The project was approved in June 2015. The proposed changes to the conditions include revising the underwater noise thresholds and exclusion boundaries for the protection of marine mammals during construction. The agency has issued a draft Analysis Report and is accepting comments until Jan. 25, 2021.
