OTTAWA — The federal government has announced a new set of online tools to provide access to information about projects that are part of its Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna stated information will be published on a regular basis through a range of online mechanisms such as an online project map, a web-based funding table and regular progress reporting.
Additionally, the government has started providing the status of project funding applications currently under review on its website.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Infrastructure Canada has approved 3,600 projects, representing $9.9 billion in federal investments, and has committed an additional $17 billion towards public transit, green and inclusive buildings and other community infrastructure projects for a total of 9,700 infrastructure projects since 2015, representing $38 billion in federal spending.
“My focus through the pandemic has been getting projects approved as quickly as possible to create jobs, tackle climate change and build more inclusive communities. Transparency is critical so that Canadians can better understand the status of these investments, which is why as of today all projects submitted to Infrastructure Canada will posted on our website,” said McKenna in the statement.
Why only now are we having access to where our tax dollars are being spent on what projects? This is basic and fundamental, should have been put in place years ago.
