Alberta providing $54 million for housing projects

EDMONTON — The Government of Alberta has announced a $54 million investment in 17 housing projects across the province.

The investment is expected to create more than 600 new affordable housing units, according to a news release.

Major investments include $11.5 million to Horizon Housing Society in Calgary, $4 million to Rocky View Foundation in Airdrie, $14.7 million to Meridian Housing Foundation in Spruce Grove and $3 million to Catholic Social Services in Edmonton.

“Silvera commends the Government of Alberta for this announcement, making a significant commitment to increase the number of affordable housing units in our province,” said Arlene Adamson, president of the Alberta Seniors and Community Housing Association and CEO for Silvera for Seniors.

The funding is part of the province’s 10-year strategy, Stronger Foundations, to support 25,000 additional households and is a part of the National Housing Strategy.
