VICTORIA — Metro Vancouver is building 110 affordable homes and 150 child care spaces in Pitt Meadows.
The project is part of a $158-million provincial investment over the next three years under a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding.
As part of the deal, 2,000 affordable homes will also be constructed over the 10 years.
The Heron’s Nest development will be located at 19085-119B Ave., Pitt Meadows, a site owned by the City of Pitt Meadows and leased to Metro Van for the project.
The ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund is providing more than $6.4 million for the development of a child care centre with 150 spaces on the same property.
The site has already been rezoned and construction is expected to start early 2024, states a news release.
“Heron’s Nest is a prime example of how we can successfully partner with our member jurisdictions and the Province to build and operate critical non-market rental housing and affordable child care on municipally owned land,” said George Harvie, chair of the Metro Vancouver board of directors.
