PINCHER CREEK, ALTA. — Two men from southern Alberta have been charged following a series of copper wire thefts that have significantly impacted local infrastructure.
Johannes Jorgensen, 46, of Lundbreck, and Daniel Price, 57, of Pincher Creek, were apprehended by the RCMP in Pincher Creek after a local landowner and a utility worker allegedly caught them stripping wire from a wind turbine on Nov. 27.
This incident is part of a wider investigation into multiple copper thefts in the region. These thefts have reportedly caused extensive damage, amounting to several hundred thousand dollars.
The thefts have adversely affected the drinking water supplies in the town of Pincher Creek and the hamlet of Lundbreck.
The charges laid against Jorgensen and Price include break and enter, theft over $5,000, mischief over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, and two offences under the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act. All charges must be proven in court.
