Kinetic construction raises $23,000 for charity

VICTORIA, B.C. – Kinetic Construction, a Victoria construction firm, donated $23,000 to charity last month, including a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation, putting them closer to purchasing at PET/CT scanner for the Victoria area.

“The scanner is the most precise diagnostic tool available today and we are grateful to Kinetic Construction for helping families receive the most advanced care, closer to home,” said Alyssa Grace, BC Cancer Foundation’s senior director of development, in a press release.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, we are now three-quarters of the way to achieving our goal of bringing a revolutionary PET/CT scanner to the BC Cancer Agency Vancouver Island Centre.”

B.C. has two publicly funded PET/CT scanners, both in Vancouver at the BC Cancer Agency.

“The need for a PET/CT scanner in the Victoria area hit close to home for us this year, after we lost one of our own to cancer,” said Tom Plumb, Kinetic’s president and CEO.

“We hope the ability to access this technology can help others detect the disease sooner.”

According to the company’s website, Rick L’Ecuyer, Kinetic’s long-time shop manager, died in June after battling cancer.

“We were fortunate enough to know and consider him a friend,” reads a statement from Kinetic.

“Whatever your relationship or interaction was with Rick, it was no doubt that we all knew him to be a great man; always helpful, positive and thankful in any situation and an all-around great colleague and friend.”

Every year Kinetic hosts a golf tournament and charity auction for all its employees.

“The success of this event, year after year, demonstrates what a great group of people we have at Kinetic,” said Mark Liudzius, Kinetic’s Victoria branch manager.

“The act of giving back is an important part of who we are.”

At the June 17th event, Kinetic and its employees raised a total $23,000.

Other local recipients of 2017 fundraising efforts were HeroWork, Inspire Health, and Our Place. Kinetic has donated over $150,000 to charity in the past two years, including $75,000 to Camosun College.

Kinetic Construction Ltd. is an employee-owned construction firm with offices located in Victoria, Courtenay and Richmond. Founded in 1984, Kinetic is one of the largest contractors on Vancouver Island.
