Elevator installation complete at Calgary highrise

TK Elevator Canada announced this morning it has completed the installation of 17 elevators at the Telus Sky building in Calgary, which is the third largest building in the city at 729 feet tall. Three of the residential elevators at the mixed-use skyscraper move at 1,600 feet per minute, making them the fastest elevators in Western Canada. Installation of TK Elevator’s advanced elevator systems was completed in December 2020.

Saskatchewan puts $2 million towards channel clearing

The Government of Saskatchewan will put $2 million of funding over two years to expand channel clearing for rural municipalities across the province. The Water Security Agency originally budgeted $600,000 over two years for channel clearing and the funding increase will grow the program to $500,000 for the 2020-21 fiscal year and increase to $1.5 million in 2021-22. Channel clearing involves removing beaver dams, debris, trees and shrubs, and the removal of silt and blow dirt from and along natural channels.

Plan to mark World Plumbing Day

Tomorrow, March 11, is World Plumbing Day. “The celebration of World Plumbing Day is an opportunity to reflect on the important role the plumbing sector plays in our day-to-day lives, and the skilled men and women plumbers that have continued to serve this industry throughout the pandemic,” said Dave Holek, president and chair of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada. “At the same time, and certainly in the context of a global pandemic, it is even more important that we recognize those systems that are so vital to our health, safety and well-being.”

U.S.-based Via acquires transport mapping platform

U.S.-based transit technology firm Via today announced it has acquired Remix, a San Francisco-based specialist in transportation planning and mapping platforms. The move will “support the transportation community in multimodal planning, scheduling and operating on-demand and fixed-route transit, paratransit and school buses,” states a release.
