$19.5 million Glover Road replacement expected to open in 2024

LANGLEY, B.C. — A $19.5 million contract to replace the Glover Road crossing over Highway 1 in Langley has been awarded to Tybo Contracting Ltd.

The Langley-based company will start preparations this fall with major construction starting in 2023, according to a news release from the provincial government.

The work is expected to be finished in the summer of 2024.

The current crossing is expected to close early 2023. A detour adding five minutes to usual travel time will be in place until the new crossing opens, the release states.

The work is part of a larger project to widen Highway 1 between 216 and 264 streets in Langley to improve traffic flow. The current budget for the entire project is $345 million.

The crossing’s replacement will allow for one extra lane of traffic to be added on the highway going both directions.

The new lanes will be dedicated for the use of transit, high occupancy vehicles and electric vehicles.

Further tenders related to the project are expected to be announced later this year such as the replacement of a railway crossing east of Glover Road and replacement of the 232 Street interchange.
