PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. — PCL Construction Management Inc. is leading the design early works phase for the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital Project.

SaskBuilds recently announced its intention to move forward with the project which will involve a new acute care tower, renovations and replacement of mental health spaces at the existing hospital, according to a news release.

The project will see the number of beds increased to 242 and include a larger emergency department and enhanced medical imaging services.

“This phase of the project is important to inform the next steps of the design for the new future tower and planned renovations for the Victoria Hospital,” said Saskatchewan Health Authority Interim vice-president of infrastructure, information and support, Michelle Mula, in the release.

The current phase will involve early construction and site preparation. Crews will be performing geotechnical drilling, utility work and build a new parking lot to replace parking lost when the new tower is constructed.

PCL has also placed a bid for construction of the new tower and facility renovations but the work has not yet been awarded.
