New school and trades training coming to Morden

New school and trades training coming to Morden

WINNIPEG — The Government of Manitoba is helping increase education infrastructure and opportunities in the City of Morden.

The province announced its support of a new French and English kindergarten to Grade 8 school in the city and an investment into Morden Collegiate Institute’s (MCI) Technology Education Centre to increase trade education.

Construction on MCI’s Technology Education Centre began in January 2022 and has since finished. The addition added more than 5,000 square feet of space and relocated the school’s piping trades program.

The new elementary school will have a capacity of 600 students, 20 regular classrooms as well as home economics and industrial arts classrooms, a gym, library, multi-purpose space and common area.

The school will also include a 74-space child-care facility on the main floor with its own entrance. Construction is slated to begin in the spring.

“The construction of the new school is very exciting for our division and our community. This wonderful facility will support our students as they acquire and develop the foundational skills required to thrive in the future,” said Stephen Ross, superintendent of schools with the Western School Division, in the release.
