New transit distribution centre in Colwood receives $20.6 million in funding

COLWOOD, B.C. — A new provincial distribution centre in Colwood for BC Transit’s bus fleet has just received $20.6 million in funding.

The centre will act as an important distribution centre to ensure bus availability, support fleet maintenance and serve as a central space for spare parts, states a news release.

The Government of Canada is investing $2,339,374, the Government of British Columbia $8,437,128 and local governments $9,893,892.

The funds will upgrade three warehouse bases in Colwood to establish the central facility.

“Funding for a central warehouse facility will better support the overall management of our growing provincial fleet, ensuring that we are able to keep our essential transit services running efficiently for our valued customers,” said Erinn Pinkerton, president and CEO of BC Transit, in the release.
