Construction of $76 million Highway 17/Keating Cross Road overpass begins
GOVERNMENT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA — Construction has begun on the new $76 million Highway 17/Keating Cross Road Flyover Project and is anticipated to be complete in spring 2025.

CENTRAL SAANICH, B.C. — The Government of British Columbia has announced the beginning of construction on a new overpass on Highway 17.

The project is anticipated to increase safety on one of Vancouver Island’s most important transportation corridors.

The Highway 17/Keating Cross Road Flyover Project has a budget of $76.8 million. The province is contributing $57.6 million, the Government of Canada $16.7 million and the District of Central Saanich $2.5 million for the project.

The new overpass will eliminate the need for left turns across traffic, according to a news release.

The project will incorporate plans for rapid bus transit on the Pat Bay Highway (Highway 17), as well as a new sidewalk on Keating Cross Road.

Flatiron Contractors Canada Limited won the contract for the project. Construction is anticipated to be complete in spring 2025.

“The Government of Canada remains committed to improving commutes for Canadians and today’s start of construction is an embodiment of this commitment,” said federal Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan in the release.
