CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. — The City of Campbell River, B.C. is gaining a new long-term care centre with more than 150 beds.
The project will cost an estimated $134 million to complete with Comox Strathcona Regional Hospital District contributing $53.6 million. The rest of the funds will be provided by the Government of British Columbia through Island Health, according to a news release.
The facility will also be built, operated and owned by Island Health.
The three-storey facility will be on the west side of the North Island Hospital, Campbell River campus, and will have 153 long-term care beds, a 10-bed hospice, a 26-bed convalescent care unit and a 26-bed specialized population unit.
The facility will contain several amenities such as a hairdressing salon, space for an adult day program, activities and special events. Part of the project includes the construction of a 37-space standalone day care for children.
Construction is anticipated to start in 2025 and finish in 2027. The project is currently in procurement.
