The Women Building Futures non-profit trades training program has added a welding workshop to its existing 50,000 square foot Suncor energy Training Centre, located in downtown Edmonton.
The welding workshop was assisted by a $160,000 donation from industrial and safety products distributor Acklands-Grainger, who provided welding benches, protective equipment and clothing, downdraft tables and multi-process welding machines.
The training centre is the first of its kind with classes, instructors and workshops dedicated to helping women enter the construction sector. Approximately 80 students a year go through the facility’s training programs.
