The body of a worker who went missing after a dozer fell through the ice of a tailing pond in Alberta has been recovered.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we can now confirm the death of our co-worker Patrick Poitras, an employee of Christina River Construction,” said Erin Rees, senior media relations adviser for Suncor, in a statement to the Journal of Commerce. “Emergency responders completed their recovery efforts this evening. Our thoughts remain with Patrick’s family, friends and coworkers.”

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Jan. 13. Crews responded to reports from Suncor’s Base Plant mining site near Fort McMurray that a dozer had gone through the ice.
