Rob Trymbulak, an ironworker and a supervisor on the Gordie Howe Bridge project in Windsor, Ont., was an addict for 25 years.
His substance use started at age 13 with cigarettes and alcohol and later progressed to other drugs and painkillers.
Being in the construction industry fuelled his addiction, he told Daily Commercial News staff writer Angela Gismondi during a recent interview for Part Two of our Cracks in the Foundation: Mental Health, Substance Use and Construction series.
Graduating from Ontario’s De Novo Treatment Centre in 2016, Trymbulak’s life has completely turned around.
In the second part of this three-part video series, Trymbulak describes the methods he was taught to address the root of his addiction; what it took to admit there was a problem; and the successes he has seen since seeking treatment.
