Two workers dead at Vancouver company Galiano Gold’s mine in Ghana

GHANA – A double fatality occurred on Feb. 5 at Galiano Gold Inc.’s Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana, West Africa.

Galiano, headquartered in Vancouver, B.C., said AGM Emergency Services attended the scene near a tailings storage facility. The two workers were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The company is working alongside its contractor to ensure everyone impacted by the incident is provided the required support and counselling needed,” writes Galiano in a news release.

An investigation is underway. No further details have been released.

“On behalf of Galiano Gold, we offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of our two colleagues,” said Matt Badylak, president and CEO of Galiano, in the release.
