Langley rink project proceeds ahead of schedule
TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY — The construction phase of the Langley Ice Rink project is projected to create over 200 jobs across various sectors such as engineering, construction, logistics and administration.

LANGLEY, B.C. — British Columbia-based Southwest Contracting has issued a progress report on the Langley Ice Rink project, which features five different rink spaces to be built in a stacked configuration.

The Township of Langley OK’ed the project last October. Southwest Contracting is partnering with general contractor Lark Group to add three new ice arenas and two new dry floor arenas at the Langley Events Centre.

Southwest reported in a recent tweet that work is “progressing smoothly and ahead of schedule.”

Recent efforts have included constructing access roads, wheel wash, pond and other erosion and sediment control facilities setup. There has been bulk excavation and disposal of over 100,000 square metres of soil complete with shotcrete shoring and soil anchors, detail footing, electrical and mechanical excavation, backfill of footings and slab prep.

The five new rinks will be arranged in a stacked layout for optimal space utilization, Lark Group stated. Of these, one will be a premium spectator arena with a seating capacity of 1,200 spectators.
Southwest has a daily crew of 18 to 22 workers onsite. The construction phase is projected to create over 200 jobs across various sectors such as engineering, construction, logistics and administration, Southwest said.
