It is with sadness that we advise the industry of the loss of Michael J. Miller (Mike), who passed away peacefully in Peach Arch Hospital early Monday morning, April 30, 2007.
Mike started in the road building and heavy construction industry in the early 1950’s when he founded Miller Cartage and Contracting Ltd., which later became Miller Contracting Ltd.
Mike always believed in hard work and will be remembered as a strong leader and visionary. His tenacity and determination during hard times were his hallmark. Mike was one of the first pioneers to utilize dredged river sand for construction projects. In fact, he built the very first sand pre-load in Richmond.
Mike’s footprint can be seen in many construction projects throughout the province of British Columbia.
Over the next four decades, with the support of his family and approximately 300 employees, Mike grew Miller Contracting Ltd. into one of British Columbia’s leading family-owned and operated construction companies. In addition to its diverse fleet of land-based equipment, Miller Contracting Ltd. purchased in the mid-1980’s the largest marine construction fleet in western Canada. Over time the company evolved to become a premier force in heavy, civil and infrastructure construction in British Columbia.
Michael J. Miller’s legacy lives on today in the operating companies of JJM Construction Ltd., Miller Cartage & Contracting Ltd. and Miller Contracting Inc.
