The District of Langford’s long-awaited dream of a sports centre is getting closer to reality.

The District has selected Egil Lyngen Architect to design the arena and bowling alley portion of the facility and Xcalibre to build the project.

The District has issued a separate request for proposal for architects to design the field-house portion that will coincide with a connected soccer field.

When complete, the sports centre will contain a new hockey arena with bowling alley, and a soccer field with 1,500 portable seats. The separate field house will contain washrooms and change rooms.

The combined $20 million project is tentatively scheduled to start construction in late spring 2009, with possible completion in spring 2010.
