What do you get when you combine a hydraulic mining excavator, wheel loader, dump truck, cement mixer, truss crane and bulldozer?

His name is Devastator, the largest and most powerful robot in this summer’s blockbuster movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Courtesy of Devastator, construction equipment is getting extensive exposure on the silver screen in theatres worldwide.

For those of you who may want to take your children or grandchildren to the movies this summer to see Transformers, here is a primer.

Devastator is a Decepticon, which makes him a “bad guy” in the film and thanks to his construction components, he is tasked with ripping open a pyramid in Egypt.

His ultimate goal is to uncover a weapon which, upon project completion, his villain colleagues intend to unleash in order to destroy the sun.

He is the largest robot among all transformers, weighing in at almost 2.5 million pounds and is between 100 to 120 feet tall.

The six pieces of construction equipment which make up Devastator are known as Constructicons.

Here is a description of these robots and the pieces of real-life construction equipment they are inspired by, according to sources:

• Hightower is the truss crane, inspired by a Kobelco CK2500, which can dead-lift 250 tons and weighs in at about 458,600 lbs,

• Long Haul is the dump truck, inspired by a Komatsu HD465-7, which has a 715 horsepower (HP) diesel engine, 61-ton capacity and weighs 95,020 lbs,

• Mixmaster is cement mixer, inspired by the popular Mack Cement Mixer with a 300 HP engine,

• Scavenger is the hydraulic shovel, inspired by the massive O&K/Terex RH400 hydraulic mining excavator, which tips the scales at 1.9 million pounds,

• Scrapper is the wheel loader, inspired by the Caterpillar 992K weighing almost 215,000 lbs,

• Rampage is the bulldozer, inspired by a Caterpillar D9T, weighing in at 105,600 lbs,

Thanks to the technology in the construction equipment which makes up Devastator, he has 10 times the number of individual parts found in an average car.

Laid out end to end, his parts would be almost 14 miles long, reports Paramount Pictures.
