Oil and gas development

An Edmonton-based company has completed construction on two new open camps to serve workers in new sectors of Western Canada’s oil and gas industry.

These are unique projects near facilities using a relatively new process and technology that allows operators to extract resources in a profitable manner,” said PTI Group Inc director of marketing and communications Ken MacLean.

“These facilities are now up, operating and serving the Bakken Basin play in Manitoba and the Horn River Basin play in northeastern B.C. These are both shale gas plays. The technology to extract these resources is relatively new and has come about in the last three to five years.”

PTI Group Inc. has completed construction on two new facilities called “open camps”. These modular hotels are designed to operate in remote areas where there are no other viable alternatives for housing workers in temporary accommodation.

“These are open camps, which means they are not contracted by one specific company,” said MacLean. “The facilities are ours and they are open to anybody who wants to use them like a hotel. With these camps we try to look for an area that has a good cluster of industrial activity, where there is a reasonable expectation for long-term accommodation demand.”

PTI Geetla Lodge is located northeast of Fort Nelson, B.C. and will serve people working in the Horn River Basin. This region is an emerging producer of shale gas, which is an unconventional form of natural gas.

The lodge features 52 single occupancy private rooms, each with wireless Internet and satellite TV.

It also offers catered dining, laundry facilities, recreation and fitness facilities and fuel sales.

PTI Waskada Lodge is located 14 km north of Waskada, Manitoba and will serve the Bakken Basin play. The 98-room property also offers wireless Internet and satellite TV, catered dining, laundry and recreation and fitness facilities.

PTI also operates 22 other open camp properties across western Canada ranging in size from 40 to 5,000 beds.
