The Alberta government is investing $9.7 million in a road-widening project in the Town of Beaumont, Alberta. 50th Street will be widened from Township Road 510 to 41 Avenue.
The one-time funding is part of the highway transfer agreement and is in addition to $3.5 million previously provided to the Town of Beaumont for the project.
The section of roadway was formerly a portion of Highway 814 and control, administration and maintenance of the six-kilometre section of the Highway 814 to Beaumont was transferred from the province of Alberta to Beaumont in July 2004.
The government of Alberta’s contribution represents 75 percent of the eligible construction cost of the project.
Construction on the project will be managed by the Town of Beaumont. The first phase of construction, from Township Road 510 to the Edmonton City limits, is scheduled to begin summer 2011.
