Enbridge announced on September 12 that it will twin its Athabasca pipeline at a cost of $1.2 billion. The twinned lines will run from Kirby Lake, Alberta to the Hardisty, Alberta crude oil hub.

Enbridge announced on September 12 that it will twin its Athabasca pipeline at a cost of $1.2 billion. The twinned lines will run from Kirby Lake, Alberta to the Hardisty, Alberta crude oil hub.

The new line will include approximately 345 kilometers (210 miles) of 36-inch pipeline largely within the existing Athabasca Pipeline right-of-way.

Twinning the line will add approximately 450,000 barrels per day of capacity.

The line will accept initial volumes by 2015 with full initial capacity by 2016.
