The Federal Building and adjoining public plaza redevelopment in Edmonton, Alberta has won an Award of Excellence in the civic design category at the 2011 Edmonton Urban Design Award Competition.

The Federal Building is a 10-storey Art Deco facility located on the Legislature grounds in Edmonton, Alberta. The building has sat vacant since 1989, but was repurposed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. Moriyama and Teshima Architects providing plaza and urban design services and Clark Builders were responsible for construction management.

The mixed-use building will contain offices for Alberta MLAs as well as house staff from several Government of Alberta departments. It will also boast a two-story pavilion with gathering space featuring dining options, retail and access to the new visitor centre.

A 650-stall underground parkade has also been built, replacing existing surface lots. The underground parkade also creates space for the public plaza.

The awards are put on by the City of Edmonton in conjunction with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
