WorksafeBC is undertaking an investigation to determine how a flag person was hit by a dump truck and suffered serious injuries at a construction site in North Vancouver.
“There were no witnesses and the worker was discovered by a co-worker, who then called an ambulance,” said WorksafeBC spokesperson Alexandra Skinner-Reynolds.
“We have been in contact with the RCMP and we are conducting an investigation.”
A traffic control person was struck at a construction site on Chamberlain Drive and Mountain Highway, in North Vancouver at about 9 a.m. on June 20.
The 31 year old female was struck by a slow moving dump truck that was backing into position near an excavator.
"For reasons unknown at this time, the victim fell under the rear wheel of the dump truck," said North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.
The flagger was subsequently taken to Lions Gate Hospital.
“The workers injuries are classified as serious and she is in the hospital at this point,” said Skinner-Reynolds. WorkSafeBC and Victim Services attended the scene of the incident, as well as investigators from the North Vancouver RCMP Traffic Unit.
The joint investigation will look at all safety procedures and inspect the dump truck to determine the cause of the incident.
