The local open-shop construction association in Saskatchewan recently held its third annual awards ceremony, which celebrated and recognized the achievements of employees in a variety of fields.

The local open-shop construction association in Saskatchewan recently held its third annual awards ceremony, which celebrated and recognized the achievements of employees in a variety of fields.

“The Merit Saskatchewan Awards of Excellence is an opportunity for our association and our member companies to acknowledge their employees for a job well done,” said Karen Low, executive director of the Merit Contractors Association.

“Congratulations to all the winners, and a huge thank you to all the nominees for their hard work and commitment to excellence.”

The Merit Saskatchewan awards gala was held at the German Cultural Centre in Saskatoon on April 10 and was attended by more than 250 construction representatives from across the province.

Awards of Excellence were handed out in nine different categories.

Saskatoon’s Jonathan Beaudet of Alliance Energy was named the Merit Field Employee of the Year.

He was acknowledged for his leadership and perfect safety record on the jobsite.

He was also recognized for volunteer work as the chairperson of Alliance Energy’s occupational health and safety committee.

Regina-based Coram Construction took home the Merit Employer of the Year Award for the second year in a row, while Harley Friesen of Westridge Construction was named Project Manager of the Year.

This year’s award for Community Builder was presented to Graham Hall of Concept Electric of Humboldt who is not only a volunteer firefighter but also a trained medical first responder, a Big Brother and vice-president of Junior Chamber International.

Other award winners announced at the gala were:

Merit Leadership and Mentoring Award: Cy Grenier, Banff Constructors, Saskatoon;

Merit Worksite Innovation Award: Dustin Wolf, Burco Electrical Contractors, Saskatoon;

Merit Outstanding Site Supervisor: Orlan Peterson, RNF Ventures, Prince Albert;

Merit Outstanding Office Employee: Sherry Klein, Allan Construction, Saskatoon;

Merit Trade Excellence Award: Ed Elliott, Miller Contracting Ltd., Prince Albert.
