Jesse Huffmann from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Canada Local 146 recently took part in Canadian National Boilermaker Apprenticeship Competition at the Burnaby campus of the B.C. Institute of Technology.
Boilermaker unions across the country sent apprentices to the competition.
This year, each first-year apprentice was paired with a second-year apprentice from a different lodge.
They rotated through a variety of events including welding, oxy-fuel cutting, speed head-to-head knot-tying, load-estimating, chain hoisting and speed head-to-head bolt torquing
