Wood Buffalo forming transportation committee

FORT MCMURRAY, ALTA.—The Rural Municipality of Wood Buffalo is searching for community members to join a new advisory committee that will advocate and advise on regional transportation issues.

The Wood Buffalo Transportation Advisory Committee will be given a mandate to advocate on transportation issues and to make recommendations to council on transportation matters within the region by the end of 2022.

Its mandate will not include policing or regulation of vehicles on regional roads (taxis, ride sharing, heavy or oversized loads), municipal transit services or trails or pathways.

Officials say the committee will include four non-voting members, two councillors, the mayor, and the chief administrative officer (or designate), as well as seven voting members with experience in the transportation sector.

Voting members will be made up of two Indigenous representatives, an oilsands industry representative, two business representatives and two representatives of the public-at-large.
