A team made up of representatives from the construction manager, the city, and the Edmonton Oilers recently announced that Rogers Place Arena in Edmonton, Alta. is 50 per cent complete, on schedule and on budget.

Workers are currently installing the final roof trusses.

Supporting box trusses high above the ice are also taking shape.

In the coming weeks, several cranes in the middle of the site will be dismantled.

Construction crews have also made progress on the seating bowl and  upper-level precast concrete bleachers are being put in.

Work has also started on glazing and other various parts of the structure’s exterior.

Construction began in March 2014 and officials expect to meet their fall 2016 deadline for completion.

The facility will become the new home of the NHL Edmonton Oilers.

The $606.5 million arena is part of a massive redevelopment initiative in the area.

ICON Venue Group is the project manager and PCL Construction Management Inc. is the construction manager.

The design is by HOK and engineering is by Thornton Tomasetti (structural) and ME Engineers Inc. (mechanical and electrical).

The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2016.

Recently the Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) unveiled the new Rogers Place Presentation Centre located on the second floor of Ice HQ in downtown Edmonton.

The centre will provide visitors with an opportunity to experience what Rogers Place will look like utilizing full-scale, replica build-outs of different seating options in the new arena, including a fully-finished executive suite, theatre box, loge table, loge ledge and upper and lower bowl seating.

The arena is the centerpiece of the recently named Ice District.

The 25 acres of downtown under development will feature a public plaza, two office towers, condos and a hotel.

It represents about $2.5 billion in investment.
