WINNIPEG — The federal government has announced $5.3 million in spending on eight Indigenous projects in Manitoba though the Western Diversification Program.
The allocation is part of a $27-million program to support Indigenous businesses and programs. The projects include installing geothermal heating systems; supporting trades-related training; installing a solar farm; and establishing hydroponic gardening.
As part of the spending, the Manitoba Construction Sector Council will receive $1.3 million to establish a blast hole drilling training program in partnership with First Nations; the Fisher River Economic Development Corporation will be given $1.1 million to install a solar farm in Fisher River Cree Nation; and Aki Energy Incorporated will receive $1.2 million to install geothermal heating systems in 600 First Nation homes in Manitoba.
