GrowForce announces flagship Winnipeg cannabis facility

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg is getting a new head office as it goes for the GrowForce.

GrowForce Holdings announced earlier this month that it will open its 120,000-square-foot flagship cannabis cultivation facility on 13 acres of land located in the St. Boniface Industrial Park in Winnipeg.

Renovations on the existing facility have begun and will be completed in phases over the next 18 months, with the first crop expected to begin growth by fall 2018, and shipping to medical and retailer purchasers in 2019.

This will be the third GrowForce facility. The company has purchased WILL Cannabis in Brampton, Ont. and GrowForce GRO in Dunnville, Ont. WILL Cannabis’s licence allows the company to operate other Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations licensed facilities such as the Winnipeg site.

“We looked at several cities before selecting Winnipeg. We were impressed by the entrepreneurial culture we found here alongside a large skilled workforce, strong universities and colleges as well as relatively low hydroelectricity rates,” said GrowForce Holdings chairman and CEO Rishi Gautam in a statement.

“We want to source locally as much as is feasible, partner with the community and create jobs in every area including operations, research and development, and pharmacy. We look forward to setting down roots here and growing into a national leader in our industry.”

GrowForce has a turnkey management agreement with MJardin Group, the largest legal cannabis operator in North America, where MJardin’s intellectual property including education and training methods is shared with GrowForce. The company anticipates it will produce over 900 kilograms per month once the Winnipeg facility is at full capacity.

“Our goal is to become one of the premium licensed cannabis producers in Canada and other federally legal markets worldwide. MJardin has proven cannabis operating expertise and is supporting GrowForce’s plan to invest in building our capacity here in Canada through partnerships with First Nations, universities and colleges,” said GrowForce vice-president of corporate development Jeanette Harkin.
