Edmonton completes plan for complex portion of Yellowhead Trail conversion
The City of Edmonton announced it has completed the concept plan for the largest and most technically complex portion of the Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion Program. The St. Albert Trail to 97 Street project is expected to require approximately half of the freeway conversion’s $1 billion budget. Construction on Yellowhead Trail from St. Albert Trail to 97 Street is expected to begin in 2023 and to be completed by the end of 2027.Â
Saskatchewan starts sealing summer roads
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced plans to improve 510 kilometres of provincial roads and highways with pavement sealing valued over $20 million in 2021. Pavement sealing works by covering the roadway with an oil-based substance. A layer of gravel is then placed on top. The mixture sits and cures for 24 hours and is then swept away by equipment with the gravel collected for further use.
Drone Delivery Canada signs agreement with UBC
Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) has signed an agreement to work with the University of British Columbia to deploy drone technology at the Stellat’en First Nation for UBC’s Remote Communities Drone Transportation Initiative, which will be used to transport a variety of cargo for the benefit of the Stellat’en First Nation and the Village of Fraser Lake, B.C. DDC is expected to commence deployment of site infrastructure this summer and expects to begin providing drone delivery services under the agreement in the second half of 2021.
