Affordable rental building opens in Keremeos

KEREMEOS, B.C. — More than 40 new affordable homes have just opened in Keremeos.

The new building contains 43 units from one to three-bedrooms. Twenty-seven of the units are wheelchair accessible.

The building is titled the Ambrosia and is located at 714 Veterans Ave. in Keremeos.

The building was completed with a $4.5 million investment from the province through BC Housing and $750,000 through the National Housing Strategy. The province will also provide around $274,000 for annual operating costs.

Rents will range from $420 to $1,380 depending on the unit size and tenant income, the release states.

The building will be operated by the Lower Similkameen Community Services Society. The organization will also provide community programs on the ground floor.

“As a local service provider for over 45 years, we are acutely aware of the need for housing and the difference that stable housing can make in the lives of people who need it,” executive director of the society Sarah Martin said.
