Royal Winnipeg Ballet receives funding for expansion, modernization

WINNIPEG — The Royal Winnipeg Ballet campus expansion and modernization project has received $2 million in funds from the Government of Canada.

The project includes new construction, renovations and specialized equipment purchases at each of the campus facilities. A new student living centre has already been built, according to a news release.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is Canada’s premiere ballet company and the longest standing ballet company in North America, founded in 1939.

Funds through the Canadian Cultural Spaces Fund will focus on high-priority renovations, equipment purchases and focus on dance studios and the Founder’s Studio.

“Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we are improving the efficiency, accessibility, inclusivity and safety of our campus for all our dancers and everyone in the community,” said Andre Lewis, CEO of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, in the release.
