Construction has begun on Blood Tribe’s new recovery community in Alberta

MOSES LAKE, ALTA. — On July 19, the Blood Tribe began construction on a new recovery community in Alberta.

The community is the first of four announced for First Nations in Alberta to begin construction, according to the Canadian Press.

The Government of Alberta is providing $30 million for capital costs. The 75-bed facility will be located in Moses Lake and is anticipated to be open by the end of 2024.

“This expansion of our services is much needed, a key component in healing and providing another level of care. We hope to see members leave this facility ready to live meaningful lives and gain employment and join their families again,” said Blood Tribe Coun. Piinaakoyim Tailfeathers.

The Tsuut’ina, Siksika and Enoch Cree Nations will also be building recovery communities with a $30 million investment each from the province for 75-bed facilities capable of serving 300 people. No groundbreaking has occurred for those three projects.
