Victoria seniors apartment sees significant upgrades

VICTORIA – Renovations are now complete at the Campbell Lodge seniors’ apartment building in Victoria.

Campbell Lodge is a 100-unit multi-family building built in 1978 that required renovations because some components had reached the end of their service life and residents are susceptible to overheating during heat waves.

“Campbell Lodge residents now have a safe and comfortable home for many years to come, thanks to these recent renovations,” Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto said in a statement.

Completed renovations include new heat pumps in each unit for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter as well as an upgraded building envelope. Other improvements include new fencing around the building’s perimeter and new stairs and guardrails on back patios.

Campbell Lodge is owned and operated by the Greater Victoria Housing Society, a local non-profit housing provider.

The Province of B.C. provided $8.5 million through BC Housing for renovations through the Capital Renewal Fund and the renovations followed BC Housing’s design and construction standards, which include commissioning an energy study, incorporating energy-conservation measures and meeting or exceeding waste-diversion targets.
