Calgary firm contracted for Mexico oil drilling

CALGARY — Calgary-based Simmons Edeco has been awarded a contract by Weatherford de Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V., a Weatherford International subsidiary, to provide drilling services to Vancouver-based firm Renaissance Oil Corp and its partner Lukoil, a Russian energy firm.

Simmons Edeco will undertake a 10-well Chicontepec onshore drilling program on the Amatitlan block in Veracruz, Mexico. To optimize efficiencies, a Renaissance Oil press release stated, the drilling program will be conducted from multi-well pads as much as possible, with each well directionally drilling and targeting the tertiary sands of the Chicontepec Formation.

“Although Simmons Edeco has been providing drilling and well services in Mexico, this represents the first time that the company will have supplied these services on behalf of Renaissance Oil,” Simmons Edeco vice-president of business development Rob Matheson said in a statement.

Simmons Edeco has been operating in Mexico since 2015 and has executed deep drilling operations for oil, gas, gas storage, geothermal, coal and geoscientific investigations for operators and independents in Mexico as well as on a global level. The company was founded in 1962 and recently celebrate its 55th anniversary.
