Drilling company receives $56,000 fine for worker injury in Saskatchewan

REGINA, SASK. – Rebel Drilling Ltd. has been fined $56,000 for violating two counts of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Weyburn, Sask.

The charges are the result of a worker getting seriously injured on Jan. 20, 2021 while attempting to back a tracked geotechnical drilling rig through a shop door.

Rebel received a $20,000 fine and an $8,000 surcharge for failing to provide safety information and training which resulted in an injury.

Another $20,000 fine and $8,000 surcharge is due to the company failing to ensure only trained operators are required or permitted to operate powered mobile equipment.
