Every year the World of Concrete conference in Las Vegas hosts the SpecMix Bricklayer 500, a global contest to determine who is the world’s greatest mason, along with the Masonry Skills Challenge to showcase top up and coming first, second- and third-year apprentice bricklayers held by the Mason Contractors Association of America.
Contestants in both categories face tests of skill, craft and speed with industry veterans judging their work across a one-day competition. Michael Schlund from Wasau, WI was declared world champion for the second year in a row on Jan. 24.
